Poshmark U.S. for Canadians

Book Launch: Poshmark U.S. for Canadians

It all started with the Canada Post strike in November. There I was, like many Canadian sellers, watching my sales grind to a halt. Poshmark Canada was unprepared for the strike and had no backup plan, so my sales simply stopped. Fortunately I was already active on Poshmark U.S., and almost overnight, Poshmark U.S. went from 75% of my Posh Canada income to almost double my monthly Posh Canada income. I was lucky to have that backup plan, but also all too aware from complaints from other resellers that many weren’t prepared for the shipping disaster. That’s when I decided to create a guide for Canadian clothing resellers that would make it easier for anyone to expand into the American market.

Selling on Poshmark U.S. is no longer optional for Canadian resellers; it’s a necessity. And getting set up isn’t so easy, from cross-border shipping to foreign exchange to managing records in multiple currencies. It’s a frustrating, confusing process, and until now, there hasn’t been a guide that brings together everything that needs to be considered and implemented by Canadian buyers.

Why Sell on Poshmark U.S.

If you’ve ever sold on Poshmark Canada, you know the Canadian market has its limits. Sure, we’re a nation of stylish thrifters, but the United States has over 8 times the population of Canada—and deeper pockets. This means more potential buyers, more sales, and yes, generally more profit.

Don’t forget the highly favourable exchange rate for selling products in the U.S. either. Selling a $50 USD item on Poshmark U.S.? That’s approximately $70 Canadian, and I’ve found that I can sell items for $50 USD in the United States that would sell for $50 CAD.

Cross-border selling can also be a lifesaver during disruptions that only affect Canada. Remember that Canada Post strike? That’s when my U.S. orders kept rolling in—and growing.

The Challenges of Selling on Poshmark U.S.

I’ll be the first to admit that cross-border selling, and maintaining a Poshmark U.S. account, isn’t exactly straightforward. When I was first starting out, here, are just a few of the hurdles I faced:

  • Shipping logistics: Finding a cross-border shipping service that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.
  • Setting up a U.S. address: All Poshmark U.S. accounts require a U.S. mailing address for returns and other requirements.
  • Managing two Poshmark accounts: Balancing two profiles and sets of notifications, crossposting, shipping to two countries, and marketing to two countries gets complicated.
  • Tax planning and bookkeeping: Handling foreign exchange, revenue from outside Canada, and tracking cash flows in two currencies requires the right set of tools and processes.

It was challenges like these—and a lack of Canada-specific resources—that inspired me to write Poshmark U.S. for Canadians: The Complete Seller’s Guide. My goal was to create a guide that I wish I’d had when I started.

Why Now?

If you’re still on the fence about selling on Poshmark U.S., let me offer some encouragement: there’s never been a better time to jump in. The U.S. market is booming, the exchange rate is favourable to Canadian sellers, and cross-border shipping services make the logistics easier than ever. Diversifying into the U.S. also reduces risk to your resale business and provides access to a much larger market.
