Top 7 AI uses for Clothing Resellers
The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) divides people; some see it as a valuable tool to save time and automate routine tasks, while others think it’s creating a generation of lazy cheaters and could destroy our economy. Regardless of which side you fall on, there’s no denying that AI is completely reshaping the world of clothing resale, and it’s only going to create a wider divide between those who use AI and those who don’t over the next few years.
At the enterprise level, thrift store chains, wholesalers and bulk resellers are already incorporating AI into their operations and workflows. Larger organizations are seizing the opportunity to make authentications faster and cheaper, resale pricing more reflective of market value, and processing inventory more efficient. This in turn is making it harder for resellers to find amazing deals and grow their own businesses.
Soon, the only option will be for resellers to increasingly leverage AI-powered solutions as well to fight back. In this article, we’ll cover some of the AI tools and workflows available to you right now that can help you work more quickly, increase your profit, and stand out against other resellers.

1. AI-Powered Listing Generation
Online resale platforms, and apps that integrate with them, are increasingly rolling out listing generators that accept images as input and turn them into engaging listing text. Poshmark does this with their Smart List AI, but my experiments and feedback from other Poshmark users suggest it creates listing titles and descriptions that are obviously AI and awkward. In some cases, this can turn customers off of a listing entirely. I have very particular standards about how I structure my listings to encourage clicks and conversions, so instead of using third-party tools, I use my own custom GPT that creates listings in a very matter-of-fact style that I prefer. If you’re a ChatGPT user, you’re welcome to use it as well at no cost.
2. Photo enhancement and background rEmoval
Another of my favorite AI use cases for resellers, being able to take photos and remove backgrounds or fix colors, is invaluable. Some apps are starting to incorporate AI image editing at no extra cost, while dedicated apps might require a subscription for a certain number of photo edits per month. While these tools are very powerful, it’s important that you still provide realistic product photos to customers, meaning you wouldn’t want to hide blemishes or repair photos to hide issues customers might not like.
3. Proofreading
Even if you choose to write your own listings, running them through an AI proofreader can help you avoid typos or other mistakes that might turn prospective customers off. When I need proofreading done, I just use a prompt like this in ChatGPT: “The text that follows will be used in a Poshmark product listing. Proofread the text, highlight issues in bold font, and provide feedback beneath the text. Look for typos, spelling and grammar mistakes; avoid comments about rewriting style and more significant changes.”
4. Automated Posting
Cross-posting itself isn’t an AI-supported activity, but when it’s to other languages with automatic translation and to social platforms, some AI opportunities start to open up. When I post content on this website, it’s spread automatically to social platforms via automation tools like Make.com. The more you can automate (as long as it’s to your standards–and my own workflows have admittedly required a LOT of fine-tuning), the more time you save and the more you can focus on core resale activities.

5. Pricing Optimization
Poshmark suggests price ranges when you create new listings, and there are a variety of apps (e.g. List Perfectly) to help you with price research. When I generate new listing frameworks with ChatGPT, I also have it research sold prices on eBay as a comparison. And for anything that goes on Amazon, it has a useful price research tool when scanning a barcode. AI-powered image recognization can also increasingly judge condition, materials and quality, making it even easier to build a more accurate picture of the market value of resale items.
6. Customer Service
I hate losing sleep (and I really do lose sleep) over bad interactions with customers. It happens more often than I care to admit, and inevitably I take it personally. There are the customers who bought the wrong size or rushed a purchase who, realizing they can’t get a refund or return based on size (especially when I always make sizing very clear in pictures and text), claim that the item isn’t authentic or has alterations that weren’t disclosed. And it frustrates me to no end that platforms will side with buyers in these situations, and it can be hard to stay calm and positive at those times.
To make those situations easier to deal with, I hand it off to AI. I have trained a custom GPT with the rules and policies of each platforms, customer service best practices, strategies for avoiding refunds or having platforms like Poshmark side with buyers, examples of great replies, and I just let AI do some of the dirty work. I can feed in a listing and the buyer’s complaint, and the AI can suggest a reply. Not having to do this myself makes it feel less personal and frustrating, it ensures I never lose my composure with a customer, and it increases the likelihood of a positive outcome.

7. Translations
With AI support, it’s easy to post listings in other languages and respond to customer inquiries in their native tongue. This might be done with with dedicated apps or tools (eBaymag can help on the eBay side) or by routing things through ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or your favorite AI tool.
